Everything the GTA 6 Extended Look Revealed

Rockstar showed 27 minutes of GTA 6 on 27 August 2026. The six-star wanted level, the Criminal Profile, car security and every other system, in one place.

Updated

On 27 August 2026 Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, twenty-seven minutes of gameplay captured on a base PlayStation 5, premiered on Netflix and then posted to YouTube and the official site the same evening.

It is the largest information release in the game's history, and it changed what can be written about GTA 6. Before it, every page on the web was speculation with a countdown attached. After it, there are systems that have been named, demonstrated and explained.

The wanted level is the headline

Six stars return, up from GTA V's five. But the number is the least interesting part. Police now build a suspect profile out of your face, your clothing, your weapons and your vehicle, assembled from witnesses, alarms and CCTV. Until they have enough, the stars render hollow. They know a crime happened, not who did it.

That makes escaping a matter of taking the description apart rather than outrunning it. Change clothes, change hair, add a hat, swap the weapon you were seen with, burn the car. A Heat Area forms around the crime and police search inside it. And because Jason and Lucia are usually in the same place, splitting up divides the search between two suspects.

A persistent record of how you work

The Criminal Profile is GTA's closest thing yet to Red Dead Redemption 2's honour system, with one genuinely interesting property. It reads context. Rockstar was explicit that circumstances around an action are weighed rather than every violent act drawing the same response. It persists where the wanted level does not, it moves on things as small as putting rubbish in a bin, and it can be permanently shattered.

Crime became a system

Every store in Leonida can be robbed. At the safe you choose between blowing it now for less or finding the combination for more, and the difference is measured in the time the police are spending while you look. Cash is physical and is lost when you are Wasted or Busted. Jason and Lucia share a bank account and deposits are a manual trip to an ATM.

Car theft is tiered by the car. Old ones take a slim jim or a broken window, modern ones need key cloners or phone hacking. The WAINK app on your phone reads a parked car's value, registration cost, locks, alarm and tracker before you commit to any of it.

The relationship has no bonus attached, deliberately

Jason and Lucia start together and the player decides where it goes, built through shared time rather than a dialogue tree. Shopping, training, working jobs together. It affects story moments and the ending, and it confers no gameplay advantage whatsoever. That last part is a design decision worth noticing, because the moment a relationship pays out a damage buff, it stops being characterisation and becomes a stat to farm.

What Rockstar said out loud

Two statements are worth recording because they are unusual. There are no microtransactions in single-player. And no generative AI was used in development.

Rob Nelson of Rockstar North put his own playthrough of the story and narrative side content at around eighty hours. That has been widely reprinted as “GTA 6 is 80 hours long”, which is not what it means. It is one route through the game by one person who built it.
