GTA 6 gameplay
Robberies
Robbery stops being a scripted mission type and becomes something you can do to any shop you walk past. The interesting design is the trade-off it puts in front of you every single time. Take less now, or take more and give the police longer.

Every store, not a mission type
Robbery in GTA 6 is not a set of designed heist missions with a handful of scripted stores attached. Every store in Leonida can be robbed, dynamically, whenever you decide to walk into one. That is a structural change rather than a feature. It means the map is full of opportunities rather than markers, and it means a route across the state can turn into a working day at any point.
Speed versus greed
At a safe you choose. Blow it immediately and take what is there, or find the combination and take considerably more. Finding it costs time, and time is what the police are spending while you look. The whole robbery loop is built around that one decision.
It is a good trade because both sides are real. Blowing the safe is not the failure option. It is the professional's option when the clock is already running. Hunting the combination is not the greedy mistake either. It is the correct call when you got in quietly, killed the cameras, and nobody outside knows anything is happening yet. Which one is right depends entirely on how the first thirty seconds went, and that is what makes the same store worth robbing more than once.
Doing it quietly
- Lock-picking gets you in without announcing yourself.
- CCTV can be destroyed first, which starves the suspect profile later.
- Back-room keys can be stolen rather than forced.
- Back exits exist and are worth scouting before you start.
- A mask means there is no face for a witness to describe.
- Bags and backpacks let you carry more than one load of loot out.
Every one of those is really a wanted-level decision wearing a robbery costume. The police build a description of you out of witnesses, alarms, CCTV and officers who got a clear look, so a job planned around removing those sources produces a thinner description, and a thinner description is a chase you can end by changing your shirt rather than one you have to outrun.
It is also where the Criminal Profile is quietly watching. The profile weighs circumstances rather than counting bodies, and a store robbed with a lock-pick and left without a shot fired is a different entry in that record than the same store cleared with a shotgun. Neither is unavailable to you. They simply accumulate into different reputations.
Planning the way out
Escape routes and police positioning are part of the planning rather than an afterthought, which is what separates this from opportunistic crime in previous games. The relevant questions before you go in are where the car is, whether it is a car anyone has seen you in, whether it is registered to you, and which direction leads out of the Heat Area that is about to form around the building.
Getting out of the immediate area is the goal, not getting away from the nearest patrol car. A Heat Area is anchored to the crime scene, so driving fast in circles near it is worse than moving unhurriedly away from it, and a change of clothes or a change of vehicle while the stars are still hollow can end the whole thing before it becomes a pursuit.
The money itself
Cash is carried physically and is lost when you are Wasted or Busted. Jason and Lucia share a joint bank account, and depositing is a manual trip to an ATM. Walking around with a full bag after a good job is a real decision, not an abstraction.
That single rule does more work than anything else in the economy. It makes the trip to a cash machine a genuine part of the loop, it makes a fourth store on the same run a gamble rather than free money, and it gives the police something to take from you that actually stings. Fences handle the rest. Stolen jewellery, marked cash, contraband and drugs all have a buyer, and that buyer sells access codes and leads on bigger jobs in return.
